Signs You Might Benefit from Therapy for Trauma and PTSD:

Consider therapy if you notice:

  • Flashbacks, intrusive memories, or nightmares
  • Hypervigilance, irritability, or startle responses
  • Emotional numbness or feeling disconnected from yourself or others
  • Avoidance of people, places, or activities associated with trauma
  • Persistent negative beliefs about yourself, others, or the world
  • Difficulty trusting, forming relationships, or managing stress

Even if life “works” on the outside, trauma can silently affect your wellbeing—therapy can help you regain control.

How Therapy for Trauma and PTSD Works:

Trauma therapy provides a structured, compassionate approach to understanding and processing difficult experiences. We work to:

  • Process traumatic memories in a safe, controlled environment
  • Reduce symptoms such as flashbacks, hypervigilance, and emotional numbness
  • Address avoidance, negative beliefs, and self-blame
  • Build coping strategies to manage triggers and stress
  • Restore a sense of safety, empowerment, and connection

Therapy is about reclaiming your life from trauma—not reliving it endlessly.

What to Expect in Your First Session:

The first session is focused on creating safety and understanding your unique experience. You will:

  • Discuss what brought you to therapy and your current challenges
  • Explore how trauma or PTSD symptoms show up in your life
  • Identify goals and areas to focus on in treatment
  • Begin establishing trust, safety, and coping strategies

This session sets the foundation for healing and helps you feel supported from the start.

C-PTSD & trauma therapy with EMDR sessions in Denver, Las Vegas, and Portsmouth, supporting healing

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can impact every aspect of your life. People with PTSD may experience intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, hypervigilance, emotional numbing, irritability, or sleep disturbances. Symptoms can vary in intensity and often fluctuate depending on triggers or reminders of the traumatic experience. Because these reactions aren’t always visible to others, it can feel isolating—but you don’t have to face this alone.

It’s normal to respond to overwhelming events, but with PTSD, these reactions persist and interfere with daily life, affecting school, work, relationships, and your sense of self. Without support, symptoms may worsen over time, increasing the risk of depression, other anxiety disorders, substance use, or suicidal thoughts.

I approach PTSD with the understanding that mental health is as important as physical health—they influence each other, and both deserve attention. Just as you wouldn’t ignore a serious physical injury, your emotional wounds deserve care. In therapy, I provide a safe, supportive space to:

  • Process and make sense of traumatic experiences
  • Reduce symptoms and manage triggers
  • Restore emotional balance and self-regulation
  • Rebuild confidence, safety, and connection in daily life

I use evidence-based approaches that prioritize safety, insight, and lasting healing:

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) & Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Identify and shift unhelpful thoughts and beliefs linked to trauma
  • Reduce avoidance and emotional distress

EMDR & Processing Techniques

  • Access and reprocess traumatic memories to reduce emotional intensity
  • Facilitate integration of difficult experiences

Somatic & Body-Focused Approaches

  • Recognize how trauma is stored in the body
  • Use grounding and body-awareness techniques to restore regulation

Safety, Stabilization & Coping Skills

  • Build strategies to manage triggers, flashbacks, and emotional overwhelm
  • Develop resilience and emotional regulation

Integration & Meaning-Making

  • Help make sense of trauma’s impact on your life
  • Support rebuilding a sense of purpose, connection, and empowerment

Through evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches, therapy can help you heal, regain balance, and reclaim your sense of safety and agency. You don’t have to carry trauma alone—support is available, and recovery is possible.
